For all its touristy attractions and natural wonders, at the heart of far north Queensland is its agricultural industry. A short drive in any direction out of town and you’ll immediately find yourself surrounded by sugar cane farms.
Head farther afield and you’ll discover banana plantations, avocadoes, mangoes and a wide variety of tropical fruits.
If you head up to the Atherton Tablelands you’ll discover a once-thriving, now doing it tough, dairy industry. This image of Colin Davey on his dairy farm was taken as part of an assignment with Terrain NRM – a group working with farming communities to promote environmentally sustainable farming practices such as helping prevent the runoff of chemicals from the land into the oceans, which harms our Great Barrier Reef.
